We were super-pleased to announce the first of this year's series of HEY! Girl Geek Dinners, which started on Thursday 11th March. HEY! Girl Geeks is about bringing together women who like or work within science and technology, which is pretty much everyone these days. This is the FIRST group whereby local business women (and men) and university students are getting together within the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) industries across sectors. We hope that we will be able to build this community to encourage ladies from schools, colleges, university and employment /industry to engage with each other and share their tech stories, opportunities, skills and support.
so what's a girl geek dinner anyway? -- Girl Geek Dinners were founded in London in 2005 as a result of one girl geek, Sarah Blow, who got annoyed and frustrated about being one of the only females attending technical events. She was tired of being assumed to be from an arts/media background, tired of constantly having to prove herself and decided that she just wanted a change and to be treated just the same as any other geek out there, gender and age aside.
HEY! Girl Geek Dinners is one of around 90 Girl Geek Dinner groups worldwide, with a total membership of around 45,000. This event is an opportunity for Hull Girl Geeks to socialise, network and share knowledge and expertise with the city's brightest scientists, engineers, technologists, programmers, entrepreneurs and creative & digital females.
The evenings are informal, friendly and chilled. For just £10 (£5 for students), you can enjoy some food, drinks and the chance to hang out with the city's brightest creatives, technologists, programmers, entrepreneurs, marketeers, PR professionals and creative & digital girls.
